How to Fix "Missing Contact Information" on Shopify

Fix the "Missing contact information" error on Shopify by adding email, phone, or address to your footer and contact page so Google's crawler can find them.

What this means

Google requires at least two of three contact methods to be publicly visible: domain email, phone number, and physical street address. The error fires when none are findable — typically because the footer doesn't include them and the contact page only has a contact form (which doesn't count).

How to fix it

  1. 1

Add a contact email to your footer

Edit `footer.liquid` or theme settings to display a `mailto:` link. Use a real domain email (`support@yourstore.com`) — Gmail or Outlook addresses don't count toward Google's threshold.

  2. 2

Create a /pages/contact page with multiple methods

Shopify Admin → Online Store → Pages → Add page. Include email, phone, address, and business hours. Link from main navigation, not just the footer.

  3. 3

    Ensure the email is monitored

Google's crawler doesn't test if the email is monitored, but reviewers do. An unmonitored email that bounces or never responds can fail the appeal.

  4. 4

    Verify all methods work

Send a test email. Call the phone number if listed. Confirm the address shows correctly on Google Maps. Each method must be functional.

FAQ

How many contact methods do I need?+

At least two of three: domain email, phone number, physical street address. PO boxes and Gmail/Outlook addresses don't count toward the threshold.

Is a contact form enough?+

No. A contact form alone is treated as no contact disclosure because customers can't reach you outside the form.

Where do contact methods need to appear?+

Footer (every page) is required. Contact page linked from main navigation is also required. Both visible in incognito.

Can I use a customer-service phone number that isn't a real local line?+

Yes if the number is monitored. VoIP and customer-service lines are fine; numbers that go to dead voicemail or constantly disconnect fail review.

Does Google verify the address?+

Reviewers spot-check. Use a real street address. Some categories (regulated industries) require additional verification, but standard retail accepts a verified business address.
